Serving Injured Veterans
Veterans of any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces may be eligible for VA disability benefits if they suffered an injury or contracted an illness while serving in the military. Obtaining these benefits can be a complex and frustrating experience, however. You may need a lawyer's help to navigate the VA benefits process.
At the Law Offices of Coats & Todd, we take the time to get to know our clients so we can develop a strategy tailored to their needs. We represent Houston-area veterans and veterans throughout Texas. We have attorneys who are accredited by the VA to handle your claim. For a free initial consultation, please call our Houston VA disability benefits lawyer at 800-856-1031 or contact us online today.
Available VA Disability Benefits
VA disability benefits include financial compensation and medical benefits. The amount of compensation you may receive is calculated using your ratings decision. The VA rates physical and mental impairments from 10 percent to 100 percent disabling. Ratings of 30 percent or higher may entitle you to additional compensation for your dependents. If VA disability benefits are granted, but you do not agree with the effective date of your disability, you may appeal that as well.
You may also be entitled to medical benefits from the VA. In some cases, veterans are eligible for other types of benefits such as vocational rehabilitation, education and training assistance, employment assistance and total disability based on individual unemployability (TDIU) compensation. Speak with an attorney to learn if you may be eligible.
Some Common Reasons for Disability Benefits Claims
VA disability benefits claims may be submitted for many types of injuries and illnesses, including:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Agent Orange exposure
- Gulf War Syndrome
- Traumatic brain injury
- Back and spinal injuries
- Fibromyalgia
- Injuries to the arms, legs and joints
To be eligible for benefits, you must prove that your condition has a service connection. We will gather the medical evidence to support your claim. If your medical condition was not diagnosed while you were serving in the military, but was caused by an accident or exposure while you were in service, you are still eligible for disability benefits.
