Representation for Waco-Area Veterans

Serving in the military exposes service members to countless risks. Unfortunately, these risks sometimes cause traumatic injuries or serious illnesses. When injured veterans return to civilian life, they may need VA disability benefits to cover medical care and compensate for the inability to work.

At the Law Offices of Coats & Todd, we know how to prove a service connection to an injury or illness, even if it is not diagnosed until after you leave the military. We fight hard for injured veterans in Waco and throughout Texas. We have attorneys who are accredited by the VA to handle your claim. For a free initial consultation, call our central Texas VA disability benefits attorney at 800-856-1031 or contact us online.

Types of VA Disability Benefits

VA disability benefits can include financial compensation and medical benefits. The amount of compensation you receive is largely based on the ratings decision you are given. The VA rates impairments on a disability scale of 10 percent to 100 percent. If your disability rating is too low, we can help you appeal the decision. If VA disability benefits are granted, but you do not agree with the effective date of your disability, you may appeal that as well.

Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for other benefits such as vocational rehabilitation, education and training assistance, employment assistance and total disability based on individual unemployability (TDIU) compensation. Please speak with an attorney to discuss these benefits.

PTSD, Agent Orange and Gulf War Syndrome

Veterans are at risk for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) because of their exposure to trauma while in military service. Approximately three of 10 combat veterans suffer from PTSD, while an additional two or three will experience partial PTSD at some point in their lives. Individuals with PTSD may also have anxiety disorder and depression.

Veterans who served in the Vietnam War and were exposed to Agent Orange, a poisonous herbicide, have suffered debilitating illnesses such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Because these diseases can be fatal, it is critical to get benefits for yourself and your family.

Gulf War Syndrome disability benefits are available for veterans who served in Southwest Asia during the Persian Gulf War after August 2, 1990 and up to present day. This includes Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the neutral zone between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea, Red Sea and the airspace above these areas.
